Lowsunday’s Call Silence Remixed gives the same song two very different forms. Psychotribe, the project of Peter Guellard of DEATĦ B¥ LØVE, pushes “Call Silence” toward a harder electronic pulse, while Sam Rosenthal of Projekt Records and Black Tape For A Blue Girl pulls it into a much emptier space.
The Silent Tribe remix is driven by repetition. The bass becomes more insistent, the electronics close in around Shane Sahene’s vocal, and the original tension turns mechanical without losing its melancholy. The track keeps circling the same pressure until it becomes hypnotic.
Guellard’s video carries that feeling into the brutalist spaces of the University of Pittsburgh’s Posvar Hall. Sahene and Sereny Welsby appear small against concrete walls, tunnels, and repeating geometry, making the emotional distance between them feel physical rather than simply implied.
Rosenthal’s remix changes the song by removing much of that pressure. The beat recedes into drones and open electronic space, while Sahene’s voice sits further back in the mix. Without the same forward push, the vocal feels more vulnerable and the silence around it becomes part of the song.
The contrast between the two versions is what gives the release its purpose. Psychotribe finds tension in rhythm and repetition. Rosenthal finds it in distance. Neither remix simply changes the surface of “Call Silence”; each brings out a different emotional possibility already present in the original.
That makes the collaborators especially well chosen. Lowsunday first formed as Low Sunday Ghost Machine in 1994 and returned in 2025 after nearly twenty five years away from releasing new music. Rosenthal played an important role in that return, while Guellard and Sahene share roots in Pittsburgh’s dark music scene going back to the 1990s. The remixes come from people with an actual connection to the band’s history rather than outside producers treating the song as raw material.
Call Silence Remixed works because those connections never become the point of the release. The music does. One version makes the song more physical and compulsive; the other leaves enough space for its loneliness to become harder to ignore.
