Former Emeralds member, Mark McGuire, steps his ambient sketches into the spotlight on Along the Way. The pop sensibilities McGuire has alluded to on previous works, finally come to full bloom on his newest full length.
“In Search of the Miraculous,” masterfully mixes atmospheric vocals with various instrumental themes and harmonizing guitars, to create the album’s defining track. Other highlights include, “The Instinct,” which takes an advancing tone with sweeping guitars that elevate into slight dance territory and “Arrival Begins the Next Departure,” which calmly explores serene landscapes through arpeggiated solos.
The LP is a significant work for McGuire, proving to be a noteworthy addition to his extensive discography. It skillfully exposes McGuire’s commitment to previous themes and releases without falling into the trap of repeating them. Combining the intimacy of Living with Yourself with the range of A Young Persons Guide, McGuire has created an endurring work with Along the Way.
