Former Music Lover Matthew Edwards and his band the Unfortunates follow up their brilliant debut LP The Fates with this equally marvelous 45. Riding a melody somewhere between tense and wistful, the band spins “Minotaur” through a spirit world that doesn’t know if welcomes humans or not. Meanwhile, boiling in the throes of spiritual and biological possession, Edwards rails about “Bad Blood” in one of his grittiest tunes. If these songs are any indication, the next full-length record will be a(nother) doozy.
