Artists, it is said, have different voices. The ability to adopt a tone and approach that best fits with the mood they are trying to convey or the sentiment that is being expressed. While this is essentially a metaphorical concept for most creatives, Max Chaos woke up one day with the realization that, as a vocalist, he could make those different voices a tangible, audible reality. More than that, as someone of a rock, punk, and metal persuasion, the sonic canvas available to him was large enough to accommodate all manner of extremes.
“Ride the Wave” is the sound of him exploring that space, running from otherworldly and demonic screamo roars to more measured alt-rock meets nu-metal deliveries over a platform of pummelling beats and tsunami guitar riffs.
Although Max Chaos has been on the scene for a long time, often moving in and out of bands in tandem with this long-serving drummer, Justin Kills, who is featured here, this is the debut single of a new project. Karlos Doom aka Medina from Evil Dead was brought in on bass to free Max up from four-string duties, liberating him up to concentrate on fronting the band, delivering the lyrics with the required sledgehammer force and acting as the catalyst, shaman, and fire-starter for the madness, or should I say chaos, that promises to be the hallmark of their live shows.
As calling cards go, they don’t come better than that. Watch this space.
