Okay, before you round up the villagers and storm the website with pitchforks and torches (like they used to do in those old horror movies), this is just a bit of fun. Although that said, satire does have a way of starting interesting conversations and making points that standard rhetoric and debate seem incapable of. And politics is certainly much more fun when you can dance to it, as you can with “Make America Danish.”
Obviously, the song takes its inspiration from President Donald Trump’s interest in purchasing Greenland from Denmark and, through a little bit of role reversal, offers a more interesting solution, one that comes with gun control, excellent health care, a 21-point jump on the World Happiness Index (into second place) and access to delicious bacon! Maximillian Tee then goes on to list dozens of other advantages, all of which make quite a seductive suggestion.
The argument runs on a polished and pumping pop-rock sound, invites Canada to join the proceedings, and creates a fantastic sound for a new form of global politics. In fact, Max and lyricist Rene Mosegaard should establish their own political group – The Party Party – and set a new agenda for national diplomacy, one based around Carlsberg and coffee and cake.
