Mick Eddy - Come Over/About You (Istana Records)

23 June 2026

Having spent a lifetime (so far) moving through many countries and cultures and musically wandering through many sounds and styles, it comes as no surprise that someone unbounded by either geography or genre creates a unique sound. Ahead of his debut album, Strange Weather Mick Eddy has delivered two videos to give us a taste of what is to come, and the result is a blend of the infectious and the artistic, the pop-aware and the poised, the cinematic and the sonically charming.

“Come Over” runs on groovy, soulful guitar licks, driving beats, and plenty of space. It’s a joyful celebration of love, life, and longing, but also reflective of the reality of relationships, a tune both lyrically slightly nostalgic and musically forward-thinking, it is wonderfully familiar indie-pop, yet takes a giant, joyous stride into the future.

“About You” is a slightly more hushed and seductive affair; if the previous song is the sound of racing through the streets as the sun comes up, this is the sound of private thoughts being ached over in the dark of night. And if it is the same blend of the familiar and the fresh, the echo here is of the golden age of 90s neo-soul mixed with no small amount of pop infectiousness.

Pop music has had a difficult time in recent years; it seems to have been resting on its laurels for far too long. These two songs, and therefore the album that they call home, sound as if they could help usher in a new pop age, one where substance, not style, rules the roost.
