Moon Construction Kit - Snake Charmer (self-released)

8 March 2026

The wonderfully named Moon Construction Kit feels like a return to the past’s psychedelic and dreampop sounds and simultaneously a search for their next chapters. And even that isn’t really enough to describe what is going on here. There are touches of baroque chamberpop ornateness (baroque ‘n’ roll?), proggy finesse, and echoes of old-time sounds, too. And more, too, but let’s not give all the secrets away. Suffice it to say, how can you not be intrigued by and attracted to music this singular and unique?

Oliver Cornu, the man behind the name, stated that here, he aimed for a sound like that of a “fairground at night, something beautiful but a little bit haunting” and I can’t imagine a better description of what he has created here.

And if it is sonically smart, it is lyrically equally poignant, too. Exploring the idea that sometimes you realise that the thing you think is the cure, be it a person, a politician, or a pill, might actually have been the problem all along. A nice slice of meta-physics or philosophy that is totally pertinent to these times.

60’s psyche filtered through 80’s Paisley Underground revivalism, meets 90’s dream pop, on its way to carving out a lush new future for the more discerning record collector? Yes please!
