Night Wolf and Lois Powell - Unstoppable (EscaVolt Records)

5 March 2026

As someone who writes about music all day, I look forward to songs like this to brighten up the process. As you might well imagine, a lot of what comes my way feels as if it has all been done before – indie kids channelling Arctic Monkeys, rockers reusing the same three chords, pop divas embracing a 60’s sound, rappers employing the same off-the-shelf beats. Nostalgia seems to be the name of the game.

So, songs as contradictory, unpredictable, and unique as “Unstoppable” are oases in the arid, thirst-inducing sonic desert. And contradiction is the right word – the blend of trip-hop beats and almost operatic choruses, the charm and delicacy of Powell’s vocals against the brooding sonics, the sweeping highs dancing over the songs’ poised pace, the blend of anthemics and artistry… all wonderfully unexpected, all warmly welcomed.

This third collaboration between the two (but my first taste) is everything the pop world needs. A song that feels simultaneously cultish and commercial, at least to those pop-pickers with more discerning and slightly alternative tastes, which has one foot in the neo-classical world and the other in a more mainstream place, the sound of imagination and creativity running wild yet creating something so infectious, eclectic, and interesting that you can’t help but fall in love with it.

With a bit of luck, a tailwind, and a few well-placed industry champions, “Unstoppable” could prove to be a self-fulfilling prophecy!
