NINA with Radio Wolf - To See You (NewRetroWave)

30 May 2026

I’m glad that the blurb accompanying this song mentioned, amongst other reference points, Bat For Lashes, as that was the first artist that sprang to mind as “To See You” started emanating from the speakers. Okay, that is only a rough starting point, but it gets us well positioned in the musical ballpark.

Whereas Natasha Khan often weaves music from the ancient and mysterious, NINA with Radio Wolf gives us something that, whilst certainly oozing mystique, is more gothic, more pacy and instantaneous, more ….now! And, for those who want a bit of a musical history lesson, “Too See You” also reminds us that darkwave music and dance were very close sonic bedfellows in the early eighties, that the gothic sound was as much the product of alternative dance floors as it was black-clad rockers wielding guitars.

And there is no small amount of pop vibes at work here, not obvious ones necessarily, but enough to make the song ping on the radar of the more discerning pop-picker, just as readily as the creatures of the night will see their own reflection in its vibrant sheens and shimmering sonics, its skittering beats and electro-grooves.

Opposites abound here, something that makes the song so attractive, its pop accessibility balancing a deeper, darker sensibility, its chiming highs matched by detailed, ornate guitars and spiraling riffs, its addictive grooves riding through a cinematic, widescreen soundscape, both colliding and clashing and complementing and creating.

Goth trying to reach a more accessible audience? Music made between pop and a hard place? After dark disco? Rock getting richly textured, refined, and romantic? Well, yes, all of that….and more.
