NMP Human - Morbid Craziness (self-released)

17 March 2025

“Morbid Craziness” certainly navigates a rock soundscape, but it is, as is often the way, the other sonic elements and generic sounds that he threads through this more robust starting point that make the song stand out from the rock and roll pack.

Rougher guitar rhythms pin things down, but it is the more soulful licks that Balazs Janky places over the top that creates the song’s fantastic and infectious groove. Similarly, the beat is constant, but rather than take the usual rock route of pounding and pummelling the kit in a show of bravado, there is something of an indie-dance drive going on. And vocally, he has the right blend of authenticity and addictiveness that you need to pull off such cross-over sounds. Everything is as it should be and in exactly the right place.

On a side note, it is interesting that in his bio, when talking about the wide influences that weave in and out his music, Chris Rea’s name features, because this is exactly the sort of song that would have been a massive hit for him in an earlier decade, so there is no reason why Balazs Janky couldn’t have the same success on his hands in this one.

And the message? Poignant as ever. Without going into specifics, it is a general call for the world to calm down and find the middle ground, seek out empathy and understanding in each and every issue and division that seems to be driving us ever closer to the point of no return, the cliff edge, the tipping point. It is a call to be Nothing But Pure Human.
