Norðir - Unify (self-released)

24 June 2024

Some might ask why would Norðir bother writing yet another song calling for the world’s people to try and get along. Hasn’t this sort of thing been done enough? I would counter that by suggesting that you ask yourself why there is still a need for such a song in this supposedly enlightened age. We may have come a long way as a civilization, but the price of that progress seems to have been an even greater level of greed, unrest, lack of empathy, jealousy, distrust, resentment…, and hatred! Hence, there is a need for Norðir and artists like him to keep making the same point. Over and over again until people get it! And if you are tired of the repetitious nature of such songs….do something about it and help make the world a place where they are no longer needed.

“Unity” is not only a rallying point for reason but also a tremendously creative sonic slice. Norðir is adept at blending the digital and analog worlds, matching the deftness of the former with the drive, resulting in a genuinely anthemic song such as this.

The weight of the analog instruments grounding the song creates the perfect platform for shimmering electronica to dance across the top, adding poise and polish to those more robust urges and energy. The result is a futuristic blend of groove, grit, power, and lyrical poignancy.

It’s a shame that such a call for a farewell to arms, for harmony and understanding is still necessary in a so-called civilized age. But if they are needed, Norðir is undoubtedly the man for the job.
