There is something wonderfully lullaby-like about this new single from Olivia Reid, something that seems to take it out of the world of commercial music (although it has enough chart-chops to do well there) and into a more dreamlike realm.
It’s probably the lilting beat that is responsible, a rhythm that makes the song less about dancing along and instead puts you into a gentle sway, and in doing so, perhaps rocking you to sleep, purposefully and for all the right reasons.
Describing the ebb and flow of the world around us, something that we are currently all too aware of as we wait for winter’s chill to lose its grip on the land and the ushering in of spring’s warmer embrace, it’s a lovely song. It builds from simple beats, acoustic guitars, and Olivia’s engaging voice, it adds simple sonic textures – additional guitar lines, deeper vocal harmonies, and beguiling sonics that seem to flit across behind the song like clouds racing across the sky.
By the time the song concludes, it is both sonically well-upholstered yet still spacious and slightly otherworldly, ethereal and innocent, primal and perfect! and the message is both timely and timeless. When it is cold outside, hibernate. When the world is embraced by a winter chill…just chill!
