I know that almost every band feels the need to push boundaries, to be first to embrace the next big thing, to be a genre in their own right, but sometimes it is good enough to take a familiar sound and just it better than the competition. And that is exactly where we find RESIDUAL HEAT with their latest song, “It’s Nothing.”
This is a world of perfect indie hooks and infectious rock drive, of casually thrown-out lyrics and brilliant use of dynamics to make the song ebb and flow between hushed lulls and killer crescendos. It’s indie, well, indie-rock if you prefer, and yes, you have heard music like this before, lots of it, but quantity never beats quality, and this is quality stuff.
The lyrics are engaging, a story of that girl who, the worse she treats you, the more you want her; the riffs are raw and riotous; it is driven, groovesome and, quite honestly, great. It’s a song that would have sat as comfortably in the midst of the early 2000 guitar renaissance as it does at the cutting edge of today’s indie sonic boom.
Yes, you’ve heard it all before, but never done this well.
