It is, perhaps, poetically ironic that it is when we feel most burdened, most burnt out, most beaten down by the world that we are still able to respond in the most beautiful, positive, and restrained ways. At least, this seems to be the case with this new single from River Dew. If many chose to fight fire with fire, here the choice is instead to tackle those dark moments where we feel tired and tested, bruised and broken, with a delicate affirmation, a reminder that there is still good in the world and that we will always find ourselves reenergized and reanimated and returned to our better selves.
Over a background sound of cascading waters, the music here shimmers and shines like sunlight dancing across its ever-changing form. The sonics themselves feel liquid and lovely, spacious sheens that merely ripple behind the vocals, the perfect frame for a voice that feels hushed and intimate, yet present and purposeful.
And whether the song is dedicated to the strength found in faith or more broadly about those people in our lives that we lean on, the shoulders that we cry on, the nourishment drawn from those who care, it is a simple plea, a poignant prayer to finding renewed strength and carrying on. As they say, after the rain, there is always sunshine… “Don’t Stop” reminds us that the metaphorical sunshine is never too far away.
