Rubbish Party has always done things differently. A band that exists in different forms in two different countries. A band steeped in ancient German mythology. A band with names/personas as contrasting as the genteel-sounding Edward Clutterbuck and the Lovecraft-esque The Crimson Creep. A band not hemmed in by fad or fashion, audience expectation, or comfort zones. And a band that now, rather than releasing a single to tease the audience and test the waters ahead of an album, instead releases one as a final sonic full stop and bonus for the loyal and discerning music fan.
This creative coda, ‘Please Stay,’ is a song built on urgency and energy, a furious blend of Arctic Monkeys and Babyland (or at least Babyland on an amphetamine), a place where the indie dancefloor, the garage-rock mosh pit and the electro-punk cutting edge all get into a fist fight… just for the hell of it.
Rubbish Party exists at the collision point of a whole bunch of collision points. Old-school guitar work gets a shot in the arm from new technologies. Analog energies soar on dexterous digital waves. Punk swagger is consumed by dance fury. The past, the present, the old, the new, the familiar, and the pioneering are the catalysts for a sonic atomic bomb, and when the smoke clears, what will survive will be nothing less than the new future of rock and roll. (And cockroaches, obviously.)
