Some songs feel like just that, songs. Others, and that is certainly the case here, feel like diary entries, so much so that you feel almost like an interuder when you listen, as if eavesdropping on private thoughts.
“Outdoor Shower” also feels like a dreamscape rather than merely a song in the conventional sense, running on the most unfussy yet perfectly honed beats and the drifting, spiraling chimes of honey-guitars. Space is more than just a sonic element here; it is the canvas on which everything else is hung, the sound of the world’s natural atmospherics tamed and tethered by sonics. It’s not just that the light is allowed to get in, the light being allowed to flood the song is the point.
And on top of that, the voices dance delicately, coming together in the way that only siblings can, the seductive sound of both separate entities and complementary halves of a whole.
Gorgeous is a word I use…well, too often actually, but maybe I’m just lucky to be surrounded by such special music, but here no other word will do. “Outdoor Shower” is a song that both boils dream-folk down to its spacious essence and yet is the most widescreen and cinematic sound you will have encountered in a long time.
All of that, and this is only their debut single. Impressive.
