Sasha Joy - Got You Something (self-released)

18 May 2026

Joy by name, joy by nature! You can always rely on Sasha Joy to bring a sound that puts a smile on your face, even if, as here, a bitter-sweet vibe underlines the song, but I suspect her default setting is to find the good in everything. And perhaps it is in those conflicting spaces, the ones where different emotions fight for dominance, those juxtapositions of sadness and liberation, that the most interesting songs are found.

“Got You Something” is all about silver-linings, those feelings that even though you are moving on reluctantly from a difficult experience, a relationship that you had hoped would be the one, you have learned from it and grown, you can now face the world anew, wiser and with the sping of freedom and possibility in your step, better armed not to make those same mistakes again.

And these words of wisdom she delivers over light soul licks and understated R&B grooves, a chilled, slow dance, energy and a gently infectious hook. Again, she uses spaciousness to her advantage, never smothering the vibe with too much instrumentation, merely sketching out the sound with the deftest of sonic lines. I love it when an artist understands that if less is more, then if you find exactly the perfect pieces of less, you can make a song so much more, more even than the sum of its sonic parts. And that is what is happening here.

Despite having one foot in a slightly melancholy place, “Got You Something” is a real ode to joy!
