Shaky - In a Heartbeat (Shaky Records)

6 February 2026

Nostalgia, they say, isn’t what it used to be! Yes, it’s a joke, but the idea of our nostalgic memories feeling ever more detached from where we find ourselves today is precisely what “In a Heartbeat” is about. This first single, ahead of Shaky’s second album, Kinda Wild II, explores the comfort we find in the world we knew as we become increasingly baffled by the one that now surrounds us. Anyone over a certain age can relate.

Its blend of raw indie guitar grooves and effortlessly accessible pop, or at least pop-aware moves, is both timeless and timely. Music made in the style of alternative guitar bands from the 80’s onwards, yet ornate, clever and intricate enough to move with the times. Music of the here-and-now but clearly tipping its hat to the sounds of the past, just as its lyrics evoke it.

And, in keeping with the nod to the past, the single comes with a sonic travelling companion, a B-side, no less…remember those? And if “In a Heartbeat” walks a fine line between alternative and accessible, “Bait” is a short, sharp, shock of killer college rock and intense indie vibes.

If you have been around the rock block a few times, this sonic one-two will remind you of a time and a place, a sound and a scene; if you are less weighed down by the passing of the years, it will sound like a bold template for the future. Music is, as we know, a cyclical affair and so can mean different things to different people, just one of the reasons why it, and indeed this brace of tracks, is so great.
