Spencer Skyline - Catalyst (Self-Released)

Spencer Skyline is a new artist from St. Petersburg, Florida, and his upcoming album Catalyst is driven with an alt rock sound inspired by the likes of Linkin Park and and 30 Seconds to Mars. It may be his debut, but the artist is already planning a trilogy called Stardust, with Catalyst as the first part. It’s also a concept album of sorts, as he charts the path of self-discovery and exploring his own desires and ambitions in life. Pushed to pursue music following the loss of his mother, there is a real sense of urgency and vibrance to his songs and it’s ultimately clear by the end of the album that this is far more than just a hobby for him.

The lead single “The Chase” perfectly sums up the energy and power running throughout the entire record. It has an anthemic quality with light touches of pop punk and emo which is shared by the second upcoming single “Reality,” although the latter seems more grounded and introspective. The journey described throughout is personal, but it’s by no means unique as there is an intentional universality that many will find relatable. Some might argue a trilogy is an overambitious way to begin a music career, but Spencer Skyline has meticulously crafted the first part with an incredible amount of skill and detail. Catalyst will be out later this year and is not to be missed.
