From Guitarist to Singer-Songwriter, Steve Gunn hasn’t looked back since the release of the essential Time Off in 2013. Three years later, Eyes On The Lines could be seen as the third installment of a trilogy of brilliant albums by Gunn.
The lead off track “Ancient Jules,” is Steve Gunn at his absolute best. Before even singing a note, the song reels you in with a singular opening riff and a righteous double guitar coda.
“Nature Driver” is pure magic. It’s rich snare guides the group across a soothing groove that one wishes would last forever. “Night Wander” hits a grittier tone. Gunn sounds most comfortable here, where things can be both hazy and succinct. Of the MANY guitar solos on this LP, the narrow passages on “Night Wander” burn hottest.
Eyes On The Lines is the sign of an artist realizing his full power, while still exercising economy and amity. The path to enlightenment lies within.
