Steve and the gang describe their latest single as a “romp,” and that is about as good a word as I can think of to describe their song. It combines musical fun and sonic frolics with a gently galloping groove, a song that looks to the simple pleasures of life, such as love, companionship, significant others, and all that implies.
Theirs is a world where bluesy vibes and rock energies work in harmony, riffs matter, boogies break out spontaneously, shapes are thrown, rugs cut, good times are had, and the music is a soundtrack to a captured moment, a feeling, a mood. Don’t go looking for deep and meaningful messaging and overly eloquent poetics; this is rock and roll doing what rock and roll does best. It is fun, immediate, and designed to make you forget your woes, ignore your worries, and have a good time for at least three minutes and thirty-eight seconds.
The video enhances the song’s qualities. It features Miss Betty Boop, who may now be over 100 but, through the power of cartoons, hasn’t aged a day, and still looks pretty hot. We should all be so lucky.
A sonic romp about …well, a romp! Nice.
