The Casbahs - Electric Daydreams (self-released)

5 October 2025

The Casbahs does that clever thing that most successful indie bands have done to get and stay ahead of the competition. Whether consciously or not, their music pulls in rock and roll weight without getting caught up in the clichés and bombast of that world, while simultaneously adding a pop-aware edge, but again being careful to avoid getting sucked into the shallowness and fickle fashions found there.

“Electric Daydreams,” which also serves as a taste of their upcoming second album, is a perfect example of that fine line being walked. But it also displays other smarts, not least the fact that they are perfectly aware that volume and velocity are not the only ways to deliver power and punch. To that end, their song is fairly mid-paced, yet its blend of big, perfectly poised guitars and an uncluttered, precision bombing, rhythm section, rich vocals, and overall restraint makes adds up to just as significant an impact. If not more.

It’s the perfect blend of the fresh and the familiar that works so well here, that strange conflicting feeling that you saw this band back in the day (probably supporting Arctic Monkeys or Kaiser Chiefs) but that they are also the newest breaking band of the moment. That has to speak to the idea that there is something classic about the songwriting, well, the germ of it at least.

This single is the band’s first new music for three years. Anyone who can fire back into the public eye, or should that be ear, with such a fantastic song is a band that knows exactly how to get your attention.
