The Erotics - Just What the Devil Ordered (Cacophone)

27 May 2026

Since forming in 1996, these Albany, NY sleaze-rock miscreants haven’t rested; Just What the Devil Ordered is their 14th full-length, to go with three EPs and a 40-song 2017 best-of, 20 Years of Nothing to Show For It. Their uncouth singer/guitarist and lone constant Mike Trash still delivers his uproarious, cavalier lyrics as if he’s gargled 100 proof rotgut, producing a raspy, throat-ravaged growl that recalls Lemmy Kilmister on the Motörhead-tinged “Necro City,” Wimpy Roy and John Kezdy on the Subhumans (Canada)/Effigies-esque “Nightmares or Lullabies,” and Joey Keithley on the D.O.A.-aping “I See Some Enemies.” And while their music — reinforced by longtime guitarist Doug Reynolds and drummer Johnny Riott, and new bassist Gary Bourgeois — can veer close to AOR metal/hard rock like Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, and (on the “Round and Round”-like “Horns Hold My Halo”) Ratt, it’s got enough gritty, punk-infused rock and roll energy to satisfy.
