The Ingrid - Limerence (self-released)

7 April 2026

Most bands, faced with the choice of how to make an impact on the scene with their debut release, would take a more obvious approach than The Ingrid does here. Many would go big, attempt to sucker punch the audience with the bold and the bombastic, the anthemic, and the energetic.

The fact that “Limerance” runs on subtler, more serene, more seductive sonics is not only its selling point but a reminder that something this effortlessly and immensely more impactful in its sonic guile can speak volumes (pun intended) far more effectively than any grandiloquent, three-chord “banger” … or whatever the journo-kids and influencers are calling it these days. Less is more, and all that sort of thing.

“Limerance” runs on brooding rhythms and downbeat vibes, not exactly ambient music but perhaps rock-ambient, sitting somewhere between dream pop and shoegaze, music made with the same trappings as that genre but woven of atmosphere and emotion as much as of sound.

It comes as no surprise to find producer Greg Walsh at the helm, given his past associations with the likes of Kate Bush and Pink Floyd, a deft touch that has helped create this sleeping giant of a song – a song whose hazy and heavenly impact is felt long after the track has faded out into the night.

Debut releases carry a heavy burden; they are calling cards, statements of intent, and they test the water, offering the listener a first taste. Rarely has a single done that more eloquently and elegantly than “Limerence.”
