The Real Anthem - Heaven Come Down  (self-released)

11 February 2026

There is a lot to unpack in this latest one from The Real Anthem, but that always makes for a rewarding experience. Who wants music that is just more of the same, music that sounds like what has gone before, music easily summed up in a quick soundbite? Better to have music that you can unpick, muse on, think about, deliberate over… argue with other discerning music fans about…don’t you think.

Well, if you recognise yourself in the above list, “Heaven Come Down” is for you!

Coming on with a brash, punchy post-punk powerplay, a blend of big riffs and fist-in-the-air anthemics, gritty alt-rock salvos and swathes of shoegazy walls of sound, such a front hides the fact that this is infectiously singalong stuff, not poppish as such, but certainly pop aware.

Just when you think you have got the measure of the song, it swaps the bounce and buoyancy for a more subdued middle section, the lights are dimmed, the vocals seem to get more intimate, the background sonics mysterious, sinister even. And having added the requisite intrigue and understatement, boom….it explodes in your face, carrying on with its up and at ‘em sort of approach.

And what’s it all about? A plea, a prayer, a call for a better future than the one we are heading into. And god knows, we are going to need all the help we can get, by the look of humanity’s current course.

Music to think about, lyrics to muse on, a song to wig out on the dance floor too…it has it all.
