The Shop Window – A World Where We Remain (Single) (Jangle Shop)

29 October 2023

The moody, evocative new single, “A World Where We Remain” is the second to be released from The Shop Window’s much anticipated third album ”Daysdream” – a double album made up of sixteen tracks due out in 2024.

The shimmering single brings all elements the indie-pop band is known including sing-along vocal harmonies and dopamine generating jangly 12-string guitars. Think Blur with Roger McGuinn or Peter Buck on lead rather than Graham Coxen.

Hauntingly beautiful, the “Remain” single somehow manages to sound hopeful and sad at the same time. Regardless, it’s a strong piece, and the band has planned for it to be the first track from the “Dreams” side of the new album.

Carl Mann (vocals/guitars) sums up the lyrics:

“A pensive social commentary of hope, despair and heartbreak, ‘A World Where We Remain’ addresses the state of the world and the endless unnecessary suffering we see as a result of our own actions. It begs the question; how can we save the world when it seems we are intent on our own self destruction, and what are we leaving behind for future generations when we continue to make the same mistakes? Tears of hope above all, must remain.”

The band have released two albums to date, _”The State Of Being Human” (2021, Spinout Nuggets) and “A 4 Letter Word” (2022, Spinout Nuggets); the latter I reviewed here. The new album is set to be released on the band’s own label, Jangle Shop Records, with Carl handling recording and producing, along with mixing what is he says will be the band’s most diverse record to date.
