The Shop Window – Run (Single) (Jangleshop)

25 January 2024

The Shop Window has just returned with their next single off the forthcoming third LP, ”Daysdream”.

“I Run” kicks off with choppy harmonics before gleefully jumping into jangle pop rock dreamland. Like so many TSW tracks, the new one effortlessly evokes Johnny Marr with arpeggiated riffs up there with the best of up-tempo Smiths songs. As always, TSW generates big, majestic melodies taking me happily back to bands like Wigan’s jangle connoisseurs The Railway Children and especially Paisley’s The Close Lobsters. Contemporaries including Eyelids, Chime School, Quivers, and Stephen’s Shore are in the mix as well.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Carl Mann and TSW are so adept at crafting hooky, addictive, harmony-rich tunes. I’ve reviewed TSW’s output several times and “I Run” simply put is one of their best to date.

Sheer joyous effervescence is stamped all over this soaring three-minute beauty. Carl clearly is in a good head space with “I Run”, noting “the lyrics are about the happiness and confidence that my family has given me. Most of my life I’ve never wanted to be at home, but now there is no other place that I would rather be.”

”Daysdream” will be released on the band’s own label Jangleshop Records. Mann recorded, produced and mixed what he says will be the band’s “most diverse album to date”. The double LP will consist of 16 tracks and is set to be released in May 2024. TSW says “the ‘Days’ side is filled with upbeat Janglepop, and the ‘Dream’ side with a more melancholic Dreampop/Shoegaze angle to it”.

”Daysdream” can be pre-ordered from The Shop Window’s bandcamp page on double vinyl or CD here and the single is here.

All I can say is I can’t wait. I’m happily addicted to this band.
