Not only is it a gathering of seasoned players, but with many of them having better-known creative outlets, this become a purer creative avenue through which to explore music and write the best songs they can without the need to chase fame or fortune – the things that generally get in the way of most bands and artists reaching their full potential. Art, for art’s sake, music as its own reward.
Such an arrangement leaves them free to make music in whatever sound or style they like, again, unburdened by any fan or industry expectation as to what they should sound like, which market the people in the backroom say they should be targetting, able to travel the musical map, calling the shots and taking the paths that are of their own choosing.
This time out, they offer us a blistering and anthemic rocker, a song that blends all the classic moves and raucous riffs that we associate with 80’s classic rock but tempered with just enough sonic trappings of the alternative world too. A perfect balance of the familiar and the fresh, of comfort zones and adventurousness.
