With a sound as warm and welcoming as the band name, ‘Save You Now’ is a shimmering slice of indie meets old-school power-pop – you know, the sort of thing that sits equidistant between pop and a hard place, embracing the best of both worlds – infectiousness and melody from the former, energy and integrity from the latter.
Guitars jangle and chime; vocals move from the accessible to the anthemiclly sing-along-able; beats bounce, creating easy energy and effortless groove while Hammonds wash and wander, pooling and percolating in any space they can find.
But as light and lush as the sound is, it brings us a deeper message (as all great music does). Who, it asks, is going to save us as our world teeters on the brink, as dark clouds gather on the horizon, as forces beyond our control seem to be reshaping the landscape in their own image? Populist leaders, tech-bro billionaires, AI revolutionaries, celebrities, grifting reactionary demagogues? I think you know the answer.
This first single from a forthcoming EP is what happens when effortlessly contagious tunes marry poignant, unanswerable questions…the world might be going down the tubes, but at least our demise comes with a great soundtrack. If ever you wanted to dance barefoot on the beach waiting for the mushroom cloud to obscure the horizon, this is the tune to do it to.
