Amidst a Cubs game and a beautiful October evening, crowds packed Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom for one of the month’s most anticipated shows.
It’s been two months since the release of A Deeper Understanding, and it’s only seemed to add momentum to the band, still flushed with success and notoriety from Lost in the Dream, which would become an alternative staple in the months after it was dropped.
The War on Drugs is absolutely a band you can appreciate within the comfort of your own home, but to limit yourself to that experience would deprive you of what could only be described as a transcendental experience. Front-man Adam Granduciel seemed in his own world, moving effortlessly track through track as the band’s iconic, atmospheric tones wafted effortlessly through the hall.
It’s an experience that one has to see to truly understand.
