There is an art of turning world weariness into something wonderful, of finding the beautiful in the brooding, and TIMOTEI knows exactly how to do it. As he bemoans the state of his life, he gives us something relatable: a synth-soaked list of things that need to change, one that makes the listener sagely nod in recognition. And as they say, once you acknowledge a problem, you can do something about it, so this is less a list of grievances and more a call to arms, a life plan put to a fluid sonic ride.
And about a third of the way through, the tension starts to rise. Scuzzy guitars begin to cut through the earlier, softer, neon-soaked sonics, taking the song out of its dreamy, synthy, brooding, alt-pop place and into an incendiary, intense, almost industrial sound, adding edge and energy, a musical fist of defiance, a resolution to change. And just as you get used to cheering TIMOTEI on as he shouts from the rooftops, turning bedroom song into a global anthem, he drops back into the more subdued realms that he brought us in with.
But now the work is done: he has vented his anger and can move on, hopefully addressing the things he doesn’t like about his life.
A mission statement? A healthy release of energy? A call to arms? A personal reckoning that we all recognise? A blend of old-school and digital dexterity? An exorcism of demons? Well, yes, all that and more.
