Not only does Trashy Annie have a brilliant way with the fist-in-the-air, kick ass rock and roll anthem, but frontwoman, Annie Davis actually has something important to say, which makes the band that rarest of things in the rock world – ferocious and articulate!
“Big Red Bow” calls out the hypocrisy of a world that praises men for having it all and punishes women who have the temerity to want the same. But you get the feeling that here is someone who is going to get anything that she and her sonic acolytes set their sights on. After all, are you going to stop her?…me neither!
It’s a great song, one that is the sort of sound that the likes of Joan Jett and her Blackhearts would be making if they were just starting out today. It retains those timeless rock and roll grooves and rabble-rousing anthemic vibes, but brings everything bang up to date with a rap salvo interlude and some synthy sonic washes. Hip-hop-electro-rock ‘ n ‘roll?
“Big Red Bow” is obviously going to resonate with women, but no matter who you are, it is a call from the rooftops, a scream in the night, a sonic blast to remind us that we only get one life, that we should never compromise who we are, what we want, or where we want to go. And now, you get to do all that with a fantastic swaggering, trash-rock soundtrack to power you along.
