Tropigloom - Invisible (self-released)

8 September 2025

Andrew Roy is anything but an unknown quantity on the Toronto music scene. Perhaps best known as guitarist for Hannah Georgas on her “For Evelyn” release, but also over the years found treading the boards with everyone from Etiquette to Off The International Radar, Praises to Beliefs. But it is his own musical vehicle, Tropigloom, a name perhaps echoing the light and shade found swirling at the heart of the music, that is the focus today.

“Invisible” is one of those tracks that the more you analyse the more rewarding it becomes, the more you unravel it, the more you can appreciate its complexities and ornateness. A blend of shimmering, dreamy shoegaze sonics and almost baggy, dance-shuffling beats, chiming indie riffs, and lo-fi bedroom pop vibes, it is a strange yet wonderful musical hybrid. But then, in today’s sonic landscape, if you are not mixing and matching, melding, and molding at least two or three styles or sounds, you might as well not bother.

The song is a prayer to that impossible task of staying unaffected by the challenges and chaos of life, and also musing on life-changing experiences that give you the necessary will to discard unnecessary emotional baggage and continue on your way down a path that is now both familiar and yet profoundly different. Or is it that the path is the same and it is we who are changed?

This is the first single to be drawn from the intriguingly titled EP, Everything Now But In Reverse, which will drop in a couple of months. And on the strength of this strange and beguiling juxtaposition, an intriguing prospect indeed.
