Life can be tough. Life can be boring. Life can be unrewarding. The life-work balance is always against us. That is why we should find relief and respite in anything and everything we can and do so wherever possible. More often than not, that oasis, that solace, that escape can be as simple as finding the company of another, special, person.
And that is the idea at the heart of Wild Horse’s latest single, “Read My Mind (Vibes Song).” Taking the effortless cool of the indie sound and the effervescence of the pop world, not to mention a succulent echo of Supertramp’s subtle and serene keyboard pulses, the now four-piece gives us a song that shimmers with the summer sun that is just around the corner.
It sounds like the soundtrack to blowing off work and heading for the coast, the park, or even just the back garden, the sound of escape from the nine-to-five, of truant being acted out for all the right reasons. Those reasons, in this instance, are found in the company of that someone special. But sonically, it is more than that, it is a veritable summer anthem.
Could this be the 2025 soundscore to every road trip, barbeque, and beach party across the Western world? I wouldn’t be surprised.
