Wild Remedy is the sort of band capable of doing for folk precisely what the Dixie Chicks did for country music. That is, offering a take on it that is perfect for mass consumption but still has something to say, in the case of this Canadian trio, something about the human condition and growing up in the modern world. Not to mention delivering some killer songs along the way. If the latter retooled the bluegrass sound into music for the masses, Wild Remedy is taking folk music down an infectious and pop-infused route and Songs From Home is all the proof you need of that.
This EP delivers songs built on sumptuous folk harmonies and music that ebbs and flows between the spacious folk of “What I Did Find” and the gentle stomp of “Home Song” and takes us from the realities of “Take Your Punches” to the lush ethereality of “Wild Remedy” itself.
Sitting between the world of folk tradition and pop accessibility, poised and organic acoustic sound and the sheen and polish that only comes from modern production, Wild Remedy could be the perfect folk band for the moment. There is no “could be” about it.
