WOLVES X Kat Meoz - Empire (WildHRZN)

So much rock music is made by rehashing what has gone before. I get it; rock and roll arguably found its perfect form long ago and has served us well ever since. But the modern artist can do more than just shift the existing pieces of the sonic jigsaw puzzle around into new, pleasing shapes. Surely, the discerning and adventurous artist should be looking to do something new with the form, preferably whilst still adhering to the moves and grooves that made the genre so potent in the first place. Evolution is okay, but maybe revolution is where it is.

The teaming up of WOLVES and Kat Meoz seems to have provided just the right balance of the fresh and the familiar, the tried and tested and the forward-thinking that the genre has been crying out for, and the resulting single, “Empire,” is the sound of progress and exploration rippling across the rock landscape.

Heady blends of intense sonics are drawn from both the old-school, analogue world and the digital creative palette to create angular and raw rockscapes as Kat shouts from the rooftops, her cry an anthem to ambition and desire, power and potential.But the real modernity comes from the way that it echoes with almost clubland vibes, or at least ones that have been past through an industrial filter.

“Empire” is not just the sound of now; it is the sound of the future. It is the sound of the rock world moving on, the sound of new blood coursing through the genre’s veins. Rock and roll might have long been based on the sound of where it has already been; WOLVES and Kat Meoz, however, have their eyes set on only one thing: the road ahead.
