Herpes – “Das Manifest,” “Keine Experimente” & “Das Ding Auf F”
Asking me to pick out my favorite tracks from Herpes’ astounding debut, Das Kommt Vom Küssen (Tapete), would be like asking me to pick my favorite toes, so I’m listing the whole damn thing. It’s THAT good.
Herpes – “Very Berlin,” “Galeristen” & “Verstimmt I”
Ibid.
Herpes – “Verstimmt II” & “An Einem Sonntag Im August”
Ibid.
Herpes – “Verzettelt” * “Das Kommt Vom Küssen”
Ibid.
Chad E. Williams – “Slaves of the Rainy Day”
The sound of rain, a piano that is both rock and Erik Satie, with percussion by Jay Burger. A powerful track from The Vision Fields (Love Earth Music).
Chad E. Williams – “A Blast of Silence”
Eerie pulsing Krautrockian electronica.
Chad E. Williams – “Bury Me in a Nameless Grave”
Heavy doom-y psychedelic dirge also featuring the percussion of Jay Burger.

A jazzy Fela Kuti-ish groove that charms the listener into automatic movement. From Mulatu Steps Ahead (Strut).
Mulatu Astatke – “Ethio Blues”
A musical exploration reminiscent of Sun Ra in his earliest years, i.e., Jazz by Sun Ra aka Sun Song.
Mulatu Astatke – “I Faram Gami I Faram”
Arabesque Latin jazz full of vitality and mystery.
