David Musto: September 5, 2010

A week of guilty pleasures and other things.

  1. My Life With The Thrill Kill KultSinister Whisperz: The Wax Trax Years 1987-1991 (Rustblade)

As with so many guilty pleasures, this one started with a girl. As it turns out, TKK and Dario Argento movies are the only good things I got out of the whole deal. This is not just a collection but yet another set of remixes. Some, surprisingly, have been improved.

  2. NFL Cutdown Day

Yes, it’s sad that some players are getting released and will never fully realize their dream of playing in the NFL but that’s too bad. Who lives out their dreams, anyway?

  3. Sleigh BellsTreats (Mom & Pop)

The weather is finally nice enough to have windows open, so I thought I’d blast this since I can understand why people would find it irritating.

  4. Tori AmosLittle Earthquakes (Atlantic)

Nearly 20 years and two concerts later, I still find myself being a little embarrassed listening to this. That said, I also have the rest of her albums, save the last two.

  5. Digital Underground – “The Humpty Dance,” (Tommy Boy)

I’m not going to defend this because it needs no defending.

  6. EntwineGone (Century Media)

Really melodic metal which is all the craze these days. But it was still a novelty a decade ago and I love the ’80s-ness of it.

  7. GoblinTenebre (Cinevox)

The soundtrack to one of the aforementioned Dario Argento horror flicks. I could actually watch the movie on mute while just playing the record.

  8. The JacksonsDestiny (Epic)

I can’t help it. This album is catchy as hell. I blame it on the boogie.

  9. The UndeadDawn Of The Undead (Shagpile)

The complete discography of Bobby Steele’s post-Misfits band. This is just great. No excuses. Certainly better than the Misfits post-Danzig output.

  10. DeGrassi High (CBC-TV)

I’m not sure this qualifies as a pleasure since I’m not even sure I think the show is any good. But I appreciate the cojones that the makers of that show had. First episode: teen preganancy and abortion. Ballsy.
