David Musto: September 26, 2010

  1. DeerhunterHalcyon Digest (4AD)

Immediately jumps into my top 3 of the year, maybe Bradford Cox’s best. Get it here.

  2. No AgeEverything In Between (Sub Pop)

Another possible year-end top 10 pick, No Age has their most versatile effort. Check my review here.

  3. Mean JeansAre You Serious? (Dirtnap)

    Just a fun record.

  4. Joy DivisionSubstance (Factory)

Certainly not a fun record but maybe the best singles/b-sides collection ever.

  5. Titus Andronicus & Best Coast – Metro (Chicago) – September 18-19, 2010

As Ms. Shanley’s review of this show can attest, Titus Andronicus are a great live act. Best Coast actually sounds better outdoors. Male Bonding and Free Energy, though were pretty uninteresting.

  6. Matthew Sweet & Susanna HoffsUnder The Covers Vol. 1 & 2 (Shout! Factory)

With summer coming to a close, I thought these albums were the perfect send-off. They’re not the best cover versions around but they revived the crush I’ve had on Hoffs for almost 25 years. Let the awkwardness pass…

  7. John LennonImagine (Apple)

    To even out the happiness.

  8. Dead Man Walking Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Columbia)

An album full of artists that irritate me (Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, Lyle Lovett) create a perfect accompaniment to this classic film. The title track is by far my favorite from Springsteen.

  9. Cymbals Eat GuitarsLive With Marc Riley (BBC 6)

Joe D’Agostino’s little engine that could preview some new tracks that sound like their previous tracks and that’s fine with me.

  10. B.o.B Presents The Adventures Of Bobby Ray (Grand Hustle)

Some very diverse guests like Rivers Cuomo, Eminem, Janelle MonĂ¡e, and Hayley Williams of Paramore join Bobby Ray Simmons for some surprisingly great moments.
