David Musto: November 7, 2010

The Week In 7 Inches

Vinyl reference, innuendo only partially implied.

  1. Voice Of The PuppetsI Don’t Wanna Know b/w You’re All I Wanted (Sing Sing)

30th anniversary repress of the only release from these Brit punks. A must for Buzzcocks fans.

  2. Best CoastSun Was High (So Was I) (Art Fag)

Much rawer than anything on Crazy For You but still 3 good tunes.

  3. DevoBe Stiff b/w Social Fools (Stiff)

Great non-album Devo tracks and a companion single to the classic debut Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!

  4. CrocodilesSleep Forever b/w Groove Is In The Heart/California Girls (Fat Possum)

A-side is the title track to Crocodiles’ fantastic sophomore album and b-side is exactly what you think it is: enjoyable and weird.

  5. Cola FreaksMig Mig Mig (Rob’s House)

Energetic danish punk band were the final backing band of Jay Reatard, and it is apparent why he picked them. They have a very Lost Sounds quality to them.

  6. Fucked UpCouple Tracks b/w Heir Apparent (Matador)

This 7” came exclusively with pre-orders for the Couple Tracks singles collection and it contains to excellent songs sure to end up on FU’s next singles collection.

  7. The Boom BangBummer Camp (Guestroom)

Debut EP from promising punk rockers from Oklahoma.

  8. Iggy & The StoogesI Got A Right b/w Gimme Some Skin (Bomp!)

At one time, this single was the only way to hear proper versions of these songs and the only proper recordings I know of the post-_Raw Power_ Stooges (James Williamson era).

  9. Wild NothingSummer Holiday b/w Vultures Like Lovers (Captured Tracks)

A-side is not close to the best track from the band’s first album, Gemini, but the b-side is Grade A.

  10. EuropeThe Final Countdown b/w On Broken Wings (Epic)

33 cents. Worth it. Whether it reminds me of Arrested Development or 80’s hair metal badness, I get a laugh out of it.
