I was full of newish releases this go ‘round.
Youth Lagoon – The Year Of Hibernation (Label Pending)
This is almost a bit too electronic for my taste but the buried vocals and arrangements make this really enjoyable. I look forward to them finding a label and giving this album a proper release.
Fucked Up – David Comes To Life (Matador)
After the David’s Town mock comp from Record Store Day, I wasn’t sure if FU hadn’t completely imploded. I am pleasantly surprised that the band has instead made minor tinkering and fleshing out to their sound on their third full-length.
The Seven Mile Journey – Notes For The Synthesis (Fluttery)
Some pretty excellent Danish post-rock. Surprisingly, SMJ does not have very much output. I want more.
UCOBY – U Can Be Only You Vol. 1 (Self-Released)
Windy City MC and producer shows some tremendous promise. His beats are infectious. A discerning man’s Tyler, The Creator.
Cheeseburger – Another Big Night Down The Drain (Adult Swim)
Though I have never watched the cartoon Superjail!, I may have to because this band (featuring series co-creator Christy Karacas) does the theme song. This is an easier listen than the other Adult Swim band Dethklok, not because of content but because it is, unabashedly, cock-rocky like an American version of The Darkness.

The Hangover Part II Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Water Tower)
All I have to say is that you include a new Danzig track on a soundtrack, you have me there. Then, you go and add a Nick Lowe song performed by the incredible Mark Lanegan and I need to be restrained.
The Reatards – Teenage Hate (Goner)
The long-awaited re-release of the first official output from Jay Reatard is nearly upon us. The vinyl version is limited edition if you’re interested.
Efrim Manual Menuck – Plays ‘High Gospel’ (Constellation)
Check out my full review- for deets.
Beastie Boys – Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (Capitol)
Who needs a Part One? The Beasties finally put out a listenable record, their best effort since at least Hello Nasty.
The Twilight Singers – Dynamite Steps (Sub Pop)
Greg Dulli has had a long and sometimes stellar career. This is the latest and best Twilight Singers record to date.
