David Musto: May 6, 2012

I wrote this in the middle of the week because I am going to see Rammstein this weekend and I fully expect to be useless for a few days after that.

  1. Avengers directed by Joss Whedon

Yes, I am a huge comic book nerd. And I had the chance, 3 weeks ago, to catch a special screening of this and, while it was exactly what I expected, it blew me away. Lofty expectations met.

  2. Cocktail SlippersSaint Valentines Day Massacre (Wicked Cool)

Awesome album from the Norwegian answer to The Bangles. If you have Netflix and were a fan of Silvio of The Sopranos, check out the Netflix exclusive series Lilyhammer. Same character, basically. Cocktail Slippers were a house band in an episode and are signed to Little Steven Van Zandt‘s label.

  3. OFF!OFF! (Vice)

Same thing as the last album, awesome. Immediate and harsh. Keith Morris at his best.

  4. TortoiseStandards (Thrill Jockey)

With Thrill Jockey celebrating 20 years, I submit one of my favorite releases.

  5. Trans AmRed Line (Thrill Jockey)

One of Thrill Jockey’s that I enjoyed in spite of myself.

  6. David Daniell And Douglas McCombsVersions (Thrill Jockey)

And one of the label’s upcoming excellent releases. Check my full review posting in a few days.

  7. El-PCancer For Cure (Fat Possum)

First full length in a while. Weird fit on Fat Possum but it’s real good.

  8. The CultLove (Beggars Banquet)

Nothing wrong with a little Ian Astbury, or a lot.

  9. Preteen ZenithRubble Guts And BB Eye (Good)

Thanks to Joseph Kyle for bringing this to our collective attention.

  10. Kickstarter

Some great bands are using the service to subsidize the costs of funding recordings. Personally, I have contributed to Austin’s Follow That Bird
