David Musto: July 29, 2012

Random stuff, no particular order.

  1. GZALiquid Swords (Get On Down)

Certainly one of top 20 hip-hop releases of the last 20 years, the re-release actually manages to improve upon the original. It come with a mini-chess board, complete with mini pieces but, most importantly, a second disc of just the instrumental tracks is included.

  2. Susanna HoffsSomeday (Baroque Folk)

What a pleasant surprise this album is from the once and future Bangle.

  3. Bare MutantsWithout You 7” (HoZac)

Not for nothing but this is my favorite single of the year. This is the band at one of the 3 best venues in Chicago, maybe top 2. The b-side, “Inside My Head”, is equally amazing.

  4. D.O.A.We Come In Peace (Sudden Death)

What you come to expect from D.O.A. after 35 years but with a few wrinkles, especially the excellent departure, “Lost Souls,”.

  5. Jen Schande19: Songs For & Inspired By Valencia Chapter 19 (Self-Released)

Nineties female indie pop time capsule opened. Check out my review for more and MP3s.

  6. Wild NothingNocturne (Captured Tracks)

Check out my upcoming review for a preview.

  7. TomahawkTomahawk (Ipecac)

With word of Tomahawk’s return, I have been refreshing on the discography.

  8. TomahawkMit Gas (Ipecac)

  9. White ZombieLet Sleeping Corpses Lie (Geffen)

And now for some schlock. This is the nearly entire Zombie discography, for better or worse.

  10. Koko BewareSomething About The Summer (Self-Released)

And now, my choice for the ultimate summer album of the year.
