David Musto: October 28, 2012

  1. Boogie MonsterAlbum 2 Demos (Self-Released)

Some more exciting noise rock is brewing from this young duo. They have about 5 of the new songs demoed and they may even exceed their awesome debut. You can check them out at their Soundcloud page.

  2. GoblinThe Best Of Goblin (Cinevox)

This time of year always gets me in the mood for the work of Italian horror maestro Dario Argento. This collection features selections from the films Deep Red, Suspiria, Tenebre, and Phenomena.

  3. Alice In ChainsDirt (Columbia)

Truly the most underappreciated of the Seattle bands. The reunion was ill-advised, sure, but they were amazing in their heyday with Layne Staley. Jerry Cantrell is every bit the talented songwriter that Kurt Cobain and Chris Cornell were/are. Their best smokes anything by Pearl Jam.

  4. Alice In ChainsJar Of Flies (Columbia)

One of the best EPs ever. Period.

  5. The Man With The Iron Fists Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Soul Temple)

Admittedly, as hip-hop has become the mainstream and often empty, I have lost interest. However, whenever the Wu-Tang camp releases something, I am always anxious to take a listen. The album is an intriguing mix of hip-hop and soul tracks with this very cool collab between RZA and The Black Keys.

  6. False ProphetsGood Clean Fun (Worn Out Brothers)

Thanks to the amazing music blog Killed By Death Records for his one. There are a lot of fantastic vinyl rips on this site and this was just the latest.

  7. Godspeed You! Black Emperor – _ ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!_ (Constellation)

Didn’t expect this to be as great as it is. Normally, I’m bored with a post-rock release after a week but this is just riveting. Check my review for more superlatives.

  8. The Suicide CommandosMake A Record (Blank)

  9. The Jesus LizardGoat (Touch and Go)

This is always in my car so it is back in rotation.

  10. Bully In The HallwayCrooks And Their Castles (Self-Released)

    Ditto. Great album.
