Songs in my On-the-go Playlist
Ten songs I can’t get out of my head right now:
“Bruised” by Ben Folds
The four-song project between Ben Folds, Ben Kweller and Ben Lee is a great gem. This is the last and the best of them.
“Mushaboom” by Feist
I discovered this album a month ago and none of the gloss has worn off. I’m not sure this is actually my favorite song on the album, but it’s the “stickiest”, to borrow an internet term.
“Blue Mind” by Alexi Murdoch
Off his eponymous EP, this song is simple, repetitive and addictive.
“Nothing Man” by Bruce Springsteen
It’s from a few years ago, but it recently popped up on my iTunes party shuffle and I remember how great and melancholy it is.
“Casimir Pulaski Day” by Sufjan Stevens.
I’d hear the argument that no song off Illinoise should be disaggregated from the rest, but I’d reject it. I like this one on its own.
“Bleecker Street” by Simon and Garfunkel
Never gets old. Loved it in high school, love it now.
“All in my Head” by Shawn Mullins
Sort of came out of nowhere for me. It’s poppy, fun, catchy. Different from most of the rest of these songs.
“You’re Gonna Make me Lonesome When You Go” by Madeleine Peyroux
This remake (yes, it’s really by Bob Dylan) makes me smile every time I listen to it, so I listen to it a lot.
“Valley Winter Song” by Fountains of Wayne
Great power pop band that gets discounted because people think “there’s no way I’d like the ‘Stacey’s Mom’ band!” You might be wrong – these guys are great.
“Life’s a Song” by Patrick Park
Sure, I out myself that I watched the OC series finale, but this is a good song.
