It’s gonna get LOUD!! Crank up the audio for maximum effect.

1. Surfbort – “Pretty Little Fucker” – Brooklyn four-piece led by wild child Dani Miller. This is the lead single for their upcoming debut LP Friendship Music to be co-released on Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records and Fat Possum Records. Record Release show (free with RSVP) at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn on October 27th.

2. Candy Ambulance – “Spray” – The upstate NY punk/rock/grunge band released their Spray EP earlier this year, but just dropped an urgent and steamy video for the frenetically raw title track.

3. Pill – “Fruit” – I stumbled upon this at SoundCloud while checking out Mexican Summer record label. Soft to punky-sharp female vox and warm, breathy sax notes. Interesting mix! New LP Soft Hell out October 26th. Per the song’s SoundCloud info, it’s about “…explores the paralysis of political anxiety in 2018.”

4. JEEN. – “Pull Out Your Knives” – The Canadian indie alt-rock/pop artist (AKA Jeen O’Brien) give Chan Marshall a run for the money vocally on this track that gallops with propulsive energy. She’s known as a solo musician and as part of Cookie Duster with Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning. Upcoming LP Gift Shop will open its doors later this fall on Red Brick Records.

5. Vaureen – “Stare into The Sun” – This Brooklyn alt-rock trio knows how to spark and sustain a stormy guitar conflagration, which happens in spades on this scorching song. Debut album Extraterra arrives on October 26th via Rising Pulse Records.

6. Swearin’ – “Grow into a Ghost” – the bright glitter of New York City” – These Philadelphia indie rockers will release Fall into the Sun, their 3rd album, and 1st for Merge on October 5th.

7. Mothers – “Pink” – Philadelphia indie rock/post-punk band led by singer and songwriter Kristine Leschper. New album Render Another Ugly Method came out earlier in September via ANTI- and the band will be playing Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn on September 20th.

8. Black Belt Eagle Scout – “Just Lie Down” – Another surprise find on SoundCloud for me. This track revels in dissonant noise, then mellows out into a vocally hushed, bittersweet confessional, all by Katherine Paul of the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community in what is now known as Washington State. New LP Mother of my Children just came out via Saddle Creek.

9. Yassassin – “Citizen” – The UK indie rock band start a topical conversation, defiantly declaring “I am a citizen / of the world.” It’s a socio-political rally cry and positive message for those that fight injustices and try to build, not burn, bridges.

10. Savannah Pope – “Rock n’ Roll No More” – This Los Angeles rock diva (in a good way!) has a theatrical style and brightly shining steel pipes and puts them to super use, belting it out to the rafters (as younger folk read this and wonder what that word means…) on this glam showstopper.
