Kristen Sollee: March 19, 2006

  1. Goldfrapp @ SXSW
Perfect weather, fabulous show, Goldfrapp is still my new favorite band.
  2. Dir En Grey @ SXSW
Their first ever performance in the US – very sexy and raw.
  3. Neil Young: Heart of Gold (PG)
Jonathan Demme’s concert film of Neil Young is quite powerful with its long, drawn out shots and golden hues. Seeing it in Austin’s historic Paramount theatre with the director and Mr. and Mrs. Young there to answer questions after the film made the whole thing even more memorable.
  4. The Notorious Bettie Page (R)
I had to see this, if only because I am one of those ladies whose love for Bettie Page inspired a tattoo many years ago. The film wasn’t as great as it could have been, (Gretchen Mol is sweet as Bettie, but needs a little more back), but its clear that director Mary Harron at least has good taste.
  5. Texas Hospitality
    They ain’t just whistlin’ Dixie.
  6. Hogwild Records
Cool independent San Antonio record store. 1824 N. Main Ave. (210) 733-5354
  7. Rob Zombie – “Foxy Foxy”
Groovy jam and first single from Mr. Zombie’s forthcoming album, Educated Horses.
  8. This website is so filled with cute things it makes me sick, and violent, and freaked out – but in a good way.
  9. Rammstein – Rosenrot (Universal)
More frosty, fascistic industrial metal. “Te Quiero Puta,” with its Spanish horns and lyrics against punishing techno riffage is quite fun (and funny!).
  10. Blondie – “Rapture Riders”
The Doors’ “Riders on the Storm” in a mash up with Blondie’s “Rapture.” Sounds weird, but its f***ing awesome!!!
