Things I love…
The Rockers
Even the most badass looking kids can smile wide and be really friendly – especially those in Harajuku’s Sex Pot Revenge store. They love Iggy Pop and tattoos, they explained with excitement in English.
The Elvis Presley Statue
One more reason Junichiro Koizumi is awesome. He and many others had a hand in erecting this bronze tribute to the King.
The Women
How could so many be so petite and so hot and so well dressed?
The Clothing
Even a hunched old lady on the train I saw was wearing a Pierre Cardin hat. Wow.
The Temple Scribes
Many of the temples in Nara and Kyoto have shodo masters ready and willing to stamp the temple’s seal and sign some beautiful kanji into your blank books.
The Original Swastikas
They are emblazoned on studded face masks and t-shirts in the punk rock shops as well as on temples. Clearly the latter is referencing the original usage of the symbol from Buddhism, but what about the former?
The Porno
All the good parts are blurred out, yet they can show some really bloody violent stuff.
The Language
Difficult, yet fun. If I’d have spent this much time on Spanish, I’d hope to be fluent by now…
The Service
Impeccable – pretty much everywhere I’ve been.
The Food
I don’t really need to explain this one.
