The White Noise Supremacists – “She’s Soft Inside”
Berlin-and-Brooklyn based one-woman band Iféoluwa Babalola carves slabs of gothically tinged punk and soul out of sparse, to-the-point lyrics and raw interlocking melodies as The White Noise Supremacists . Understated, dangerous and from the heart.. check out this track from the recent release The Scene Is Dead .
Clara Engel – “Mother Fist”
Clara Engel is a Montreal-based artist who really has an arresting command of the dramatic, the mysterious and compelling within her music. Engel’s vocals and delivery have a real drive and power, bringing to mind a less frightening Diamandia or even Peter Murphy at times. Every song seems to stand on it’s own, carrying more layers and depth and non-flaky poetics and suggesting a dark turbulence of soul. This song “Mother Fist” aptly references the great Yma Sumac !

Catl – “Workin’ Man’s Blues”
Catl ’s one of the blues-drenched swamp combos holding down the rock in Toronto, a city that’s drawn a big reputation for overblown arena-indie cheese. It’s nice seeing some real moneymaker-shakers representing the bottom end. Boogie to their “Workin’ Man’s Blues” :
