10 Songs That Are Appropriate for the Protests Going On in Wisconsin

As I’m sure you all have heard, there have been massive protests in Madison, WI against Wisconsin governor Scott Walker’s proposed budget, which would not only slash benefits and raise the cost of health care for state employees (concessions that union workers have already agreed to), but would in effect eliminate the right to collective bargaining as well. Even more so, the bill contains provisions to privatize the public utilities of Wisconsin, the main goal of the billionaire Koch brothers who supported Walker in his campaign. As a tribute to the courageous protesters, here is a list of 10 songs that are appropriate for this topic.

  1. Billy Bragg – “There is Power in a Union”

  2. Dead Kennedys – “Kill the Poor”

  3. Erasure – “The Chorus”

  4. The Dils – “Class War”

  5. Elvis Costello – “Welcome to the Working Week”

  6. The Pop Group – “We Are All Prostitutes”

  7. A.P.P.L.E. – “Fuck Authority”

  8. The Godfathers – “Birth, School, Work, Death”

  9. The Specials – “Maggie’s Farm”

  10. Scott Walker – “It’s Raining Today”
